The last anyone heard of Lance Armstrong was that he was debating a confession to USADA in order to reduce his ban and allow him to compete in triathlons and other events. Now it seems that this might have been a typo as he’s decided, instead, to talk to Oprah (right number of letters, right last vowel sound).
BREAKING NEWS: Looking forward to this conversation with @lancearmstrong:bit.ly/Xix8Ah #NextChapter
— Oprah Winfrey (@Oprah) January 9, 2013
Apparently the interview will address doping, which is good, because it’s hard to see what else Armstrong has to talk about. It will be broadcast on 17th January and should be on the internet as well at 2am UK time.
More light-heartedly: Bike reviews.
One on Bike Radar, looking at commuter bikes (for commuter bikes, read fashionable fixie-style bikes) begs the very good question as to why these bikes lag so far behind mountain bikes and hybrids in terms of the frame technology and materials you can expect at any price point. Yes the reviewed mounts do very well but shouldn’t there be a little bit more in them. Is a bright-coloured option sheet for your grips, rims and saddle really good enough to justify not even a smattering of chromoly?
And then there’s the Independent. I actually clicked on the “10 Best Mountain Bikes” article hoping for something good. Why not showcase 10 superb bikes? Instead I seem to have found an article on 10 “mountain” bikes that the journalist could find press releases on. While some of the bikes are admittedly decent for the money, and there are some that might count as “good”, they really don’t qualify as the “best”. In fact there are far too many of the bikes featuring plastic trouser guards and at least one with a dropped “ladies-style” top tube and only available in a department store, to take it seriously at all.
