Winter is basically the off season for both the organised road and mountain bike scene. So the pros are off training, or trying to:
This man just tried to run me & @russellhampton off the road. Now HE'S threatening to call the police! We want him to. twitter.com/MarkCavendish/…

And then the trail centres of wales are going crazy with new trails, both at Coed Y Brenin and Afan:
Refusing to take Winter for an answer I headed out to go for a ride around Princes Risborough.
The ride did not go brilliantly from the start. I forgot a base-layer, which seemed useful in the chilly weather so was riding with bare arms and for some reason the shifter on the bike was playing up no end making any gear changing a bit of a gamble. To add to this the condition of the ground was arguably the worst possible. Mud that was torn up by horses and exactly the right consistency to clog tyres entirely made the ride impossible in places.
Had it been drier or colder the ground would have been more ridable and the whole day more fun. As you can see It was a three and a half hour mud struggle punctuated with parts that were fun and fast. In the end it is worth revisiting but is not a ride for damp chilly weather. Still even a tough slog makes you feel better for the simple fact of riding and even taking a couple of wrong turns couldn’t take away the smile. I raced a stunning sunset through the fatigue back to the car and won.
