Yesterday I got the chance to find out as I pulled out just behind someone I recognised from work (or whose bike I recognised) and got to follow them into town, knowing they were going the same way as me. The bike was expensive as was his kit and so, by rights, he should have been fast.
In the course of the journey he jumped a couple of red lights. To clarify, he didn’t jump lights where he might have been at risk, but went through pedestrian crossings where the only risk was really to the pedestrians, not to himself.
Not only was this irritating as a law-abiding cyclist behind him, but we arrived at work at exactly the same time.
I’m not sure what this shows but I’m fairly sure it proves that fitness and skill will make you go faster than spending money and breaking the law. There’s a lesson in that.
Having finished reading my rant, settle back and watch this film from another Olympic cyclist:
"A whirlwind of a dream" Shanaze Reade. from Shanaze Reade Series on Vimeo.
