Weekend Racing

It’s summer, even if the weather doesn’t agree, and that means big biking weekends, especially when those weekends are four days long thanks to the Queen. I got out on a bike, but more on that later as I start you off with a big round up of the news and action from other people riding.

If you like your cycling hoppy and jumpy, but not in a particularly street-style, extreme.com had the UCI trials world cup first round, but unfortunately seem not to have any re-playable highlights that I can find. Still, it’s nice to see all disciplines of mountain biking getting an airing in a live streaming.

In other competition news, Mike Hall won the round the world cycle race, on his birthday, also breaking the previous record by two weeks.

Large time-gaps were also a factor in the Downhill World Cup second round at Val di Sole in Italy as Aaron Gwin managed to find nearly eight seconds somewhere on the hill to smash his way to first place. With Rachel Atherton winning the women’s event and four British riders in the top 15 in the men’s event it was a successful start to the season getting serious. Watch the entire race here, or the highlights here:

If this makes you want more, you’re in luck. This Sunday is the Fort William round. Don’t worry, I’ll remind you of this again.
