There was one huge cycling story this weekend. In case you haven’t seen, the boss of mini-cab firm Addison Lee used his introduction in a company magazine to attack cyclists on London’s streets. Ironically many cyclists I know have had more problems with Addison Lee cabs than any other identifiable cars on the road.
To be honest it’s being done to death and makes me somewhat angry, so I think the best thing is to share some links.
This is where I was first aware of the issue (and it’s nice to credit other bloggers).
It’s been picked up in all the major papers, including, most disturbingly (for the comments at least) the Mail. Here, reading the comments actually made me want to find Mail readers and shout loudly in their faces. Not that it would do any good as they are clearly a selfish, self-centred, uneducated and unintelligent group who can’t see anything beyond their own prejudices and minor inconveniences in their lives, with no appreciation of the wider society. I often wonder if they would say the same things in the real world, rather than sitting at home on the anonymous internet. They seem to be unable to reach beyond their knee-jerk reaction to see a wider, more constructive argument.
Phew. Sorry. Anyway so the head of Addison Lee tried in some ways to make stuff better in HuffPo, but I would say simply made things worse.
Finally, if all this makes you want to, you know, sign something, and in the absence of the chance to petition to do anything about widen Mail readers’ eyes, then perhaps this e-petition to remove Addison Lee’s license is worth a look.
