It could have been a pretty big weekend for British cycling with Cavendish the hotly tipped favourite in the Milan-San Remo and the start of the mountain bile world cup in South Africa.
Unfortunately as you probably already know Cav was dropped early and didn’t perform in the road classic, something which he was gutted about on Twitter. In Pietermeritzberg the cross country was given an extra edge as people chased for national Olympic slots and the downhill featured many of the usual British big names. However with Rachel Atherton out still recovering from injury and Danny Hart crashing in the finals it was slightly left to Gee Atherton to show the way. In the women's competition the British semi-success was from Manon Carpenter, the Junior World Champion, who finished second.
It was also a chance for me to pit the live streaming on a PC against the Red Bull TV iPad app. Both were good but the app is a definite plus point for Red Bull covering the event this year as the streaming was smooth and clear and followed by a rolling stream of Red Bull sponsored athletes in excellent programmes.
Finally you know something is going to be impressive when Danny MacAskill says it is:
