Fair enough, I thought. Cav fell off his bike. Clearly it’s part of the sport, and evidently happens to even the best cyclists. Nothing about it seemed that serious (aside from the destroyed £10K bike, but I figure Mark Cavendish’s “written off” is my “bashed about a bit and needing some TLC, but still ridable” given his inevitable need for absolute precision). I mean I suppose a crash has the potential to injure him and throw his season out entirely as he goes for the Olympics, but it seemed like if this had been the case he wouldn’t have been strolling in the woods a little later?
How wrong I was. The Sun clearly had another view and screamed “Cycling hero Cav in crash scare”. Perhaps I should have been more worried? Although the article does actually point out that he wasn’t badly injured, inevitably having got the information from the same source as me.
Much more shocking is the realisation that no-one will actually do anything even if a thief is clearly attacking a bike lock with a pair of bolt cutters in broad daylight in a busy street in London.
