Amateur Riding

I do like it when mainstream publications give some space over to mountain biking, although I never quite understand why the articles always seem to like to focus on the plucky amateur angle.

I mean I fully appreciate that it makes a sport accessible for people who think it’s out of their ability themselves, but just for once I’d like to see a cycling travel feature written by someone who admits it’s not their first time and that they can actually ride. I’d like less of the shock at getting bruised and muddy and more of the thrill of just riding hard and then hitting the beers at the end, please.

Also I very nearly stopped reading and curled into a small foetal ball during the first sentence of this feature. I’m not sure if there was any need to even mention that!
