For me, mountain biking is the pinnacle of what you can do on a bike. It’s about freedom, and exercise and fun, as well as being in the countryside and seeing some things you just won’t any other way. Still, for some people the traditional way of doing it isn’t quite enough. It seems that some people are only happy if you’re at least taking away a wheel.
Making it less extreme was this slightly confusing article about “urban mountain biking”. I’m all for this in theory. Using your bike to negotiate concrete, walls and paving is great fun and the top level of this should look something like Danny MacAskill. Unfortunately the person in this article’s not quite at that level. I’m not sure how telling you how to handle a bike as you go into shops is as impressive as a front-flip off the edge of Edinburgh castle, or why the kerb-tips stop at basically just riding up them. Let’s hope for more riding that pushes the limits and less that describes how to push a bike along.
Finally some good news. The looters who stole £20,000 worth of bikes from MiCycle in Islington during the riots have been caught. I love the free advertising as well.
