World Champion

Imagine being a British sports fan and watching an event where you know that the national team has a plan that can win a major world event, then imagine that they don’t snatch defeat from the jaws of possibility, but instead execute that plan perfectly and actually win the event.

Sound unlikely? Well the GB road cycling team did just that this weekend. To add to a clutch of medals at the world championships including gold at the U23 women’s road race, and silver for Wiggins in the time trial, Cavendish stormed through as ever to take the road race world championships gold. He’ll be in the rainbow jersey all next year and adds to his phenomenal year including taking the Tour de France green jersey.

This wasn’t just an individual win, but one that saw the whole team, marked from the beginning as a threat, working amazingly together and controlling the race form the start. Even more impressively this was exactly what they had let it known they would do and were watched by the best in the world, all trying to stop them. The GB team were the dominating team and just a spectacular force to be reckoned with, right down to the last man.

It’s an exciting time to be a British cycling fan. In fact I can't even begin to work out how many world champions at different disciplines we have this year.
