Vuelta Victories?

To break up a short week of mostly ride reports I thought it worth bringing your attention to goings-on in Spain.

Yesterday was a rest day on the Vuelta a Espana, and that gave everyone the chance to digest the fact that British interest was running high. Not only is Bradley Wiggins sitting in a dangerous-looking third place overall, but also Chris Froome, a Kenyan based in the UK, with UK Team Sky will be starting today’s stage in the leader’s red jersey.

While the Vuelta is often overlooked in some ways next to the Tour de France and the Giro, and before the Tour of Britain makes local interest again, but this could be a chance for British-based cycling to shine. A winner in this Grand Tour would make this year an incredible one for British cycling following on from Mark Cavendish’s green jersey win in France. ITV4 are cranking up the coverage and are showing the Vuelta live everyday with highlights at 7pm, so I thoroughly suggest you give it a watch.
