The funny thing about following bike news, is the number of times it overlaps with major world events. We saw a few months ago that the devastation in Japan led to a rise in bike use as roads and cars were disabled, and it seems to have happened again.
Various sources are reporting that the massive gathering in New York to celebrate the death of Osama Bin Laden at the weekend (where people who claim to disapprove of glorifying death and terror as a means of engaging with the wider world gathered to celebrate a death in a massive frat-party atmosphere… but that’s another issue…) led to a massive spike in hire-bike use in the city. It seems that people grabbed any way to get to the celebrations, and that included bikes, even in car-obsessed America.
As much as you might think news form the cycling world leaves you in a bubble of pro-peloton rumours and mountain bike trails, you still are engaging with what’s going on all over the world.
