Overcoming Separation Anxiety

Getting separated from your bike is traumatic however it happens. If this happens in the form of a crash it can also hurt and have an impact on your wider life. Recently Tim Kopra discovered this as a fall from his bike has prevented him from taking up his place on a Space Shuttle and being the lead spacewalker on the next mission. That’s a pretty far reaching consequence from a fall, and firmly puts into perspective the odd scrape I still have from my muddy slide on Monday.

Alternatively finding yourself separated form your bike in a forceful way might be due to theft. While this is unlikely to stop you being an astronaut it can still be pretty tough. Help might be at hand, however, in the form of a simple GPS tracker that can be hidden on a bike. Integrated Trackers (who’s technological wizardry hopefully is better than their website, which is down as I write this) offer the chance to follow your stolen bike after it’s been taken, and presumably regain it. On the other hand you might get to watch helplessly as it’s shipped abroad, or track it neatly back to the sort of place you really shouldn’t safely go. Let’s hope the Police are on-board with the system and can help recover bikes when the location is known.
