Driving Tests and Calendar Girls

Sometimes riding a bike on the road can feel a little like a battlefield, and even if you are as aware as you possibly can be, and an experienced and strong cyclist you can still be taken by surprise and get into an accident thanks to the actions of other road users. To combat this BikeAware are campaigning for the driving test to be revised to include a section on riding a bike on the roads. This is with the aim of increasing awareness of the risks that cyclists face and to make drivers more aware of their vulnerability. If it was introduced I’m sure it would help drivers to pay more attention to cyclists and hopefully prevent some of the accidents that can be avoided.

Having started on a serious note it seems like a good time to lighten the mood with the first of our Christmas gift ideas for cyclists. In a world of online and on-phone applications printed calendars are facing a tough time, so perhaps you’d like to treat the cyclist in your life to a cycling calendar, and help save the industry.

You might want to aim for something featuring stunning action shots form one of the premier UK events, such as this one from the organisers of the Fort William Downhill Mountain Bike World Cup, but there is an alternative that’s sure to be top of some cyclists’ lists. Cyclepassion have been producing calendars featuring the most photogenic of female cyclists for the last few years, and 2011 is no exception. If that’s not enough you can even watch interviews and behind the scenes footage with the athletes involved in a series of videos shot by Cyclefilm. What more could you want?
