The exciting news this weekend is that the FMFT bike stable has been expanded. The latest addition is small but perfectly formed and makes you marvel at how it has all the bits that larger versions do, but so tiny and perfectly formed.
Yes, that’s right, we’ve been joined by a BMX. Specifically a Mirra BMX which will be perfect for those days where dragging yourself out on a full size bike seems too much hassle, but where you want a bit of two-wheeled action. Expect a large increase on here of tales of failed little-wheeled tricks and possibly an equally inevitable growth in broken bones and missing days spent in A&E. Time to start relearning riding on flat pedals and looking for those hidden transitions and challenges on the streets, as well as trying to find the times where there aren’t too many highly skilled kids on the skate parks. I’ll probably be out there in the worst of weather or in the middle of the night in order to avoid embarrassment.
This new arrival also involved a bit of famous FMFT mechanical skill. The bike arrived with a fair bit of work to do. There was the obvious pedals, saddle and front wheel to fit, but also a bit of a faff with brakes to set up, rear wheel nuts to tighten properly and, more importantly, reflectors to be removed. I mean, I’m clearly going to look a bit of a tit as I walk into casualty with a BMX injury and have to confirm that I am old enough to know better, but I’m not going to do it dragging a bike with reflectors on it. That’s just sad.
