More Lights and More Ways to Escape the Gym

Sometimes we’ve no sooner beautifully crafted (or rushed off in a gap between phonecalls at work) a blog post for you all about a subject when things that would have been perfect for it suddenly turn up everywhere. So consider this a continuation of what we’ve been doing this week.

Are you fed up with riding a bike in the normal way, or perhaps you’re on a cross trainer in the gym and wishing you had more to think about than what’s on MTV (like, perhaps navigating around the roads, and cars coming at you in all directions) then you could consider a go on a Freecross trainer. Someone at the Daily Mail has been out on one in central London, and seems to have enjoyed the experience, although I have to say you do run the risk of looking like you’ve got a bit enthusiastic on a crosstrainer and escaped straight through the front window of your local gym. As ever, clearly the comments on the Mail’s website are anti-bike all the way, so play your own bingo if you can be bothered.

On Monday we mentioned an expensive light-up bike kit, but we missed the chance to make your tyres light up as well. Cyglo have developed tyres with embedded LED lights that can turn your entire wheel into a solid light as it turns at any speed. This seems like a step up along the line of coloured tyres, but I have to say it’s an interesting idea, especially for riding in cities, or for those people who are concerned with the look of their bike beyond anything else. I look forward to seeing a BMX on a ramp at night with coloured lit-up wheels, that’ll add an even more exciting element to an already dramatic spectacle.
