FMFT in Shropshire

The last stop on the FMFT Big Trip was a return to an old favourite. We followed up the stunning Scottish riding with a stop-off in Shropshire for a couple of loops on the Long Mynd.

The trouble was it was raining in Shropshire. A lot. Enough, in fact, to leave us bailing out on the ride after the first loop, and cruising back the car, rather than climbing back up into the clouds and the rain. Shropshire has amazing riding and we’ll be back on a day, hopefully, when it’s not raining and we can navigate accurately without a disintegrating map. Still we managed a fun loop, with the usual singletrack climbing, contouring and enough challenges to make it exciting, without upsetting the flow of the ride. We finished with a fast rocky descent of the kind that stays in your head for ages with the squeal of wet brakes and skipping tyres making you desperate for more. There’s more to go back for again, although the decision we made as we sheltered in the front of the National Trust café still feels like the right one at the time.
