Find Love on your Commute

Cycling, as someone wise once said, can take over, and be intertwined with every part of your life. However, it turns out that single cyclists might be missing out on crucial opportunities to get to know new people (which, as every dating film ever has told you, is the way to find “the one”). A new “networking” (which is work-speak for “flirting”) service has been launched to connect people on the same commute. SubMate aims to allow you to get to know the people on the same train or bus as you on your journey to work. I imagine the design is that you will develop a thrilling online relationship with someone who seems to be the same as you in all the important ways, just to have your eyes forcefully met by a fellow commuter who looks like a ten-year older version of the person you have fallen for. I can see it working for cyclists as well, at a stretch, whether it’s to meet that elusive someone red-faced at the lights, or simply to find, track-down and reap vengeance on a driver who’s nearly killed you. Traditionally the internet’s a place for stalkers and violent people to gather, so why change anything?

If you do manage to find “the one” and things go swimmingly well then you could well be quickly looking for stag do ideas. Once again you can stick with your cycling lifestyle and go on a leisurely bike tour of London involving the odd pub along the way. This seems a little tame for a stag do to me, but then it takes all sorts, and I guess anything too rowdy might make it a little dangerous to ride between the pubs, even if you are mostly off the roads. I look forward to running into a tour group like this as they wobble along the roads half-cut trying to avoid getting run over at any point.
