Club Run

As we return to the UK and to normal there are several things that should be mentioned.

I know you’ve been wondering just where you can gather to drink and watch cycling on telly. I mean, it’s all very well that pubs the length and breadth of the country will be showing football this summer, and that occasionally you can stumble upon a pub bizarrely showing the European indoor 5-a-side football championships, but where can you see the proper pro-cycling events, and also wear all that cycling/beer drinking gear you carefully bought for just such an occasion?

Well, high-end bike kit company Rapha have brought you the perfect solution in the form of the Rapha Cycle Club which is open now, for three months on Clerkenwell Road.

As ever, in the interests of journalistic integrity here is a picture of the outside:

Even here I think the style is clear. This is a place for the more stylish end of the cycling fraternity (or sorority, let’s not be sexist), and somewhere to, perhaps needlessly, use French terms for everything. All I hope is that it doesn’t end up full of people drinking in their full replica road team kits. If I want to drink beer with a view of tightly lycra-ed genitals then I’m sure there’s some clubs in Soho I could head to. The club is in the traditional heart of courier county so there’s some hope that it’ll be more about the stylish mix of cycling and non-cycling wear that seems to prevail there.
