On Monday I was going on about bikes featuring in car adverts, only to find that the internet would soon be abuzz with talk of a new two-part Mercedes Benz ad which centres on a race between a bike and a big car through New York City.
Is part one, which gives you the set-up, and then part two, has the race:
I’m far from an expert on posh cars, not on routes through New York, so I’ll leave it to BikeSnob to tell you what-for in this case. By my definition at least this fits into the “drive a car, it’s more comfortable than a bike” category.
Closer to home I can also continue my theme this week of things written on the back of vehicles with an exclusive report that I followed a bus for a proportion of my journey yesterday (partly at least to keep warm in the heated exhaust fumes). The back of this bus told me that I could save a bike on the cost of my car insurance. It’s part of this series of adverts for a popular insurance comparison site, and I’m hoping it means that I can save the value of a new bike I would consider. Anywhere I can save over £1000 on my insurance would be great. They’d be paying me. Unfortunately I think that the advert should probably more accurately read;
“Save a (cheap and nasty catalogue) bike (with the forks undoubtedly fitted backwards) on your car insurance”
Still it’s good that car insurance companies are encouraging you to think about starting cycling.
