If you like your cycling a bit more competitive than a leisurely cruise to work then you are currently pretty spoilt for choice for big name events to watch.
If you get your kicks from watching people go round and round in the dry than the World Track Championships are on at the moment in Copenhagen, and on the telly every night if you’re in the UK.
If muddy riding is your thing then the Mountain Bike World Cup is due to kick off next month.
If you’re more about people riding the roads then there’s a wealth of races going on at the moment as the season’s in full swing. I’m not going to go into all the options as there are better places to find them out, but rest assured there are roads across the world that are being pounded by various pelotons of varying skill, from the amateur scene, up to the Pro Tour.
Mind you, watching road racing often leaves you struggling for a team to support. You’re torn between different teams with a rider from your country of choice, or aiming for a pro team which, at least nominally comes from the country you’re in. For a more straight forward choice of who to support you need a big event like the Olympics, and purely coincidentally I came across the site to register your interest in tickets for the 2012 London Olympic events today. Get on there and register your interest for all the cycling events, for some top class riding right in our backyard.
