The art of marketing bicycles is to convince you that the current product is the one you can’t live without, and that you will never want to part with once you buy it, and then convince you of exactly the same thing in a year’s time with a new product.
If that fails, one thing that is almost guaranteed to get people interested is getting things for free, and that seems to be the order of the day at the moment.
To start with Specialized are offering free accessories if you buy a bike from them. You have to spend over £999.99 and then you get 10% of the value in bike accessories, but it still sounds like a pretty good deal to me, and most of Specialized’s products are pretty decent.
If accessories aren’t enough for you then perhaps you should point your internet at Titus Bikes who are offering nothing less than a free bike. The only catch is that you have to get a Titus themed tattoo of the somewhere on your body, if your design and placement wins the public vote you will get a £5000 bike and the tattoo for free. Interested? The facebook page to sign up is here. If a tattoo is just a bit too permanent then there are some other options coming up as well, according to Media Life, so you can take your pick from getting married in his’n’hers cycling tops or changing your name to the unforgettable “Rockstar 29er”.
Maybe all that seems a touch gimmicky and you feel like the prices are still too high, then there’s always the traditional way of getting something for free, as in this shocking and audacious armed robbery that’s hit the headlines across the internet. Let’s hope that the thieves have over-cooked it by taking a fairly rare bike and that will lead to their downfall. It’s scary to think that bike shops are at risk of being targeted by organised and gun-toting criminals.
