As previous posts have demonstrated, I have a conservative approach to bike apparel. It’s winter; we need lights. Put one on the front of your bike and one on the back. Then put on some reflective clothing. To me, this seems simple enough.
Not all of London seems to agree with my approach however. I have come across quite a few riders who like to also have a front light attached to top of their helmet. My previous rant on this subject was about a rider with a red light on the back of his helmet in clear daylight. I admit the front light is possibly more practical, and I’m happy to report that I have only seen it used in the dark so far, which is reassuring.
I have tried to be fair in my approach to this new challenge to my conservative ways. I can see the additional light being useful in certain circumstances. For example, if you need to read a map, or if you forgot to tie your shoelaces. But, ah screw it, look, you may as well just put some silver foil on a packet of cornflakes, strap them to your arms, make yourself a shiny helmet and head out for a game of transformers.
Sorry, it would appear that the more understanding I try to be, the stronger my rejection of strange accessories becomes.
