Am I the only one who has noticed these talented upstarts? They seem to be everywhere, flinging themselves from pavement to road with aplomb.
Take a recent example in Bethnal Green. Me and a couple of friends were waiting at a pelican crossing. It was pitch black and raining gently. He came flying along the pavement from behind us, weaved his way through us, straight into the road, narrowly avoiding cars in both directions, and headed off into the distance. I’ve drawn you a little diagram.

Are these not the skills of a future downhill champion? He had to scan near objects (us) and far objects (the cars), plot his route at speed and ignore that getting it wrong could result in a trip to hospital.
I hope to see scouts for all the major teams in prime position (a seat in McDonald’s near a window, perhaps) soon.
