Striking News

It’s probably a bit late for you if you already got caught up in the tube strike this morning, but FMFT can only blame a Downhill World Championships Party for being a little slow off the mark this morning.

At least if the strike continues we can claim to have helped you out with cycling options as an alternative. Basically our advice can be summed up in one sentence: Ride a bike to work. Oh and don’t stop when the tubes start again, just keep riding.

To help you out in the first instance TfL have provided some guided bike convoys from various point around London. Have a look at the TfL website for more information.

What, unfortunately, won’t help you is using the hire-bikes on a whim. The casual use part of the scheme has now been postponed to the end of the year to allow Serco to iron out any problems.

If you’re riding into work and experiencing the Cycle Superhighways for the first time then let us know what you think. You can be safe in the knowledge that the UK has failed to do anything as dramatic as the three-lane, traffic-light free, cycle motorways planned in Copenhagen, which should actually make commuting into the city a breeze.

At least London is a cycling role-model for some places. The island of Jersey is looking into the possibilities of a copy of the capital’s bike hire scheme.

Our thoughts on the Downhill World Champs will be up tomorrow. Almost certainly.
